NYC Hudson Penthouse
The challenge of designing the interior of this remarkable penthouse was to create a unique environment immersed in art and culture. Located in one of the city’s most extraordinary vantage points, the residence overlooks the Hudson River on one side, Worldwide Plaza on the other, and the iconic route toward the Statue of Liberty beyond.
The inspiration for the project came from the client’s travels to Africa, where vibrant culture, organic forms, rich textures, and expressive colors informed an eclectic interior filled with character.
A thoughtful curation of artwork—painted by the client—became a central element of the design. Each piece was carefully considered alongside the decorative objects, lighting, and furniture, creating a harmonious color palette and a visual thread connecting the different spaces.
Upon entering the living room, the terrace and expansive views immediately become part of the interior experience. A white sofa layered with cushions in varied textures and colors is paired with two individual rattan lounge chairs, a natural-fiber rug, and a leather-and-metal bench. Two differently shaped coffee tables introduce movement to the composition, while carved wooden sculptures add a distinctive organic accent that echoes the surrounding vegetation and abundant natural light.
In the dining area, a burl-finished table is surrounded by six bouclé-upholstered chairs, bringing texture and a contemporary, welcoming atmosphere.
The upper level houses two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. Neutral tones in textiles, wood, and rugs allow natural light to create a warm and serene atmosphere throughout.
The painting studio embraces the creative process by leaving materials and works in progress visibly exposed, transforming the act of making art into an integral part of the home’s identity.
