desertification
Centering on the theme of "Urban Heat," "Desertification" illustrates the progressive warming of cities driven by global climate change through an urban skyline, a thermometer, and liquid reflections.
The composition layers high-rise buildings in vibrant hues of red, orange, and brown to symbolize escalating temperatures and the urban heat island effect. Meanwhile, a thermometer marked with specific years and increments tracks the relentless rise in global heat. The artwork envisions a future where cities remain under the constant strain of extreme temperatures—where once-thriving metropolises gradually lose their vitality, becoming as arid and scorching as deserts.
"Desertification" is far more than a depiction of environmental decay—it is a stark ultimatum. If we fail to act now, the vibrant metropolises we build today are destined to become the lifeless, scorched deserts of tomorrow.
