"Chomp is a playful yet well-resolved product design that fuses metaphor, motion, and function into an immediately legible, sculptural tape dispenser, transforming a mundane action into a performative experience grounded in thoughtful form-making and digital fabrication."

Chomp 恐龍上顎膠台
Chomp is a conceptually driven consumer product that successfully transforms an everyday action—pulling tape—into a performative, narrative experience. The project’s core strength lies in its clear metaphorical alignment between form, motion, and function: the act of tearing tape directly reenacts the biting mechanism of a dinosaur jaw. This one-to-one relationship between gesture and meaning is elegant and immediately legible. The reinterpretation of a Late Jurassic ceratosaur skull as a desktop object is handled with care. Rather than literal imitation, the design balances paleontological reference and contemporary abstraction, allowing the object to operate simultaneously as a functional tool and a sculptural artifact. The contrast between the rough, fossil-like exterior and the precise, digitally fabricated internal mechanism reinforces the project’s narrative of “reconstructing prehistory through modern technology.” From a production standpoint, the use of digital modeling and additive manufacturing supports both formal complexity and iterative refinement. The exploded views and before/after studies demonstrate thoughtful consideration of assembly, stability, and user interaction. Importantly, the product does not rely on novelty alone—the tape-dispensing function remains clear, intuitive, and ergonomically sound. Where the project could be strengthened is in explicit usability testing or market context. While the object is compelling as a design statement and collectible lifestyle product, additional insight into durability, long-term use, or desk integration would further reinforce its readiness for broader consumer adoption.
