Creative Aging Board Game: Dementia-Friendly Color Design for Sustainable Preventive Care
This project presents a well-resolved, human-centered healthcare design innovation that successfully integrates cognitive science, cultural familiarity, accessibility, and sustainability into a single, highly practical system. The strongest aspect of the work is its clear understanding of aging-related cognitive change. The dementia-friendly color strategy—using warm, high-contrast tones and consistent color–object associations—is not decorative, but functionally grounded in perceptual decline and memory load reduction. This demonstrates a mature design logic aligned with real user needs rather than abstract inclusivity claims. By simplifying rules while retaining symbolic recognition, the project lowers barriers to participation and preserves dignity, social connection, and enjoyment—key criteria in contemporary preventive-care design. From a sustainability standpoint, the project is exemplary at an appropriate scale. The use of rPET filament, support-free FDM printing, and local on-demand production reflects a credible circular design strategy, avoiding exaggerated environmental claims while delivering tangible material impact. Most importantly, the inclusion of user evidence and pilot data elevates this project beyond conceptual design. Demonstrated improvements in satisfaction, recognition, and social interaction significantly strengthen its credibility in an international jury context.
